The Fountain still Flows

On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness - Zechariah 13:1

When I think of a fountain, I think of something continuous… something that is steady flowing and never running dry. In Zechariah 13:1, God promises a fountain, opened wide and freely flowing, and it’s purpose is to cleanse His people. God doesn’t promise a drop. God’s promise isn’t a trickle, drip… drip… dripping like the leaky spigot on the side of the house. No, God’s promise isn’t of an abundant, ever-available stream of mercy and grace. Like a natural spring… gushing continual living water.

This passage, while rich with imagery, is not poetic in nature, but prophetic in nature. This fountain finds its fulfillment in Jesus. On the cross, Jesus blood was spilt and a spiritual fountain was opened. That spiritual fountain is still open today… it’s still flowing - for you, for me, for anyone who feels stained, burdened, and weary.

Maybe today you burden is heavy. Maybe your week didn’t get started the way you had hoped. Maybe the weight of the storms of life are blowing strong against you. This verse reminds us that the fountain is still open.

This fountain is open for cleansing and it’s the cleansing that begins the healing. It says it will cleanse us of sin and uncleanness… that means we are cleansed not only from the wrong we’ve done, but also from the shame we feel because of it.

Take heart, family, We are not beyond the reach of God’s mercy. There is a fountain, opened by the love of Jesus, and it still flows today. All you have to do is come to Him.

Ask yourself, Where in your life do you need to come to the fountain today - for cleansing? For renewal? For peace?

Heavenly Father, thank You for your Word and Your promises. Thank You for opening the fountain of grace at the cross. Thank You that I don’t have to fix myself. Cleanse me today - all of me Lord - and help me live in the freedom of Your forgiveness. Amen.
